My new Dell Optiplex works great and the internet connection is good. I'm trying to connect my old Windows 7 computer to the internet and I still haven't been able to do so, even after trying some methods I found online. I'll be calling AT&T tomorrow about that. But what puzzles me is that I can't get any of my mp3 files to play, at least not through my speakers. Those speakers worked OK last time I tried them last year. But I can hear music through my headphones when I use the headphone jack on the front of the machine. Any ideas about why this might be happening?

try plugging the speakers into a different jack in back. Do the speakers require a separate power source that plugs into the wall, or do they get their power from the PC through maybe a USB port? Hard to say.

Thanks! But before reading your email I found out my speakers don't work. Gotta check them out or buy new ones.

Run "services.msc" by tapping the Windows/Startup key and typing that in. Make sure your Windows Audio service is running.
Thanks, but that didn't work. I think it's something more basic. The subwoofer is externally powered, and the speakers are plugged into it. Windows Media Player shows that a song is playing, but there is no sound. I don't even get the Windows sound at startup. I'll let you know how it goes after I talk to AT&T (hopefully not an hours-long call).
