Spider Jorgensen was still active in baseball and was only in Folsom during the off season for most if not all of the time we lived next door.

The World Series inspired me to remember we had once lived next door to retired Brooklyn Dodger Spider Jorgenson, who worked at Western Electric on Sutter. I wondered why he retired in Folsom, and turns out he was born there, same year as Dad.

One day a police car with a bullhorn drove by on School St. and said they had found a 4-year old red-haired boy named Doug. In case Mom might be charged with neglect, we told the cops Mom was out looking for him, and that he had gotten lost going to the store on Bidwell. We were not allowed to swim in the Jorgensen’s pool because Greg had thrown frogs in it. So Dad put in a doughboy pool, where I discovered I was part fish and developed the nastiest sunburn ever.

I never knew anyone considered you a redhead. But I guess you were smart enough to tell the cop you lived on School St, which is pretty impressive for a 4-year old.

Let me set the record straight. I never got lost. I was simply walking to the store which you know was only a few blocks away.
