I learned these in 8th grade in Rancho Cordova.  I had to say what the

theme of Robinson Crusoe was, and I couldn't figure out what a theme

was. I thought it might be a moral as in Aesop's fables. So I said the

theme was that when hard work is applied you can succeed, or some BS

like that. I had to live a lot longer and be exposed to the word before

I realized the theme was more like Man Against Nature. That was too

advanced a concept for the 8th grade, in my opinion. But Mr Jodice was a

good teacher, and even broughjt in a couple af successful myster

writers, a husband and wife. Tthe wife said the publisher only bought

her first book because he didn't know who did it. Well, she didn't know

either and that's when she started outlining.
